mp3/USB Player

Congratulations! If you are reading this page it means you have successfully completed the AurThings program and are ready to start using your new prize.

The instruction booklet that comes with this isn't completely clear and the software makes even less sense to me (if you figure it out let me know)*, so this page has a few helpful navigation tips and a brief description regarding music and podcast downloads.

GETTING STARTED

1. You will need to install a AAA battery by removing the cap and then sliding the back out toward the cap end.

2. To turn the player on press and hold the play/pause button (B)

3. The main menu comes up and includes: music, record, (unknown), telbook, text and system. To navigate between menu items, move the mode button like a lever back and forth. To select any item, push the mode button in/straight down toward the player. To return to the main menu at any time, hold the mode button in as though you are selecting for several seconds.

4. A few housekeeping items:

  • The player will automatically shut down every 30 seconds that you do not interact with it. I wanted to turn this feature off as I found it annoying. If this applies to you as well: Navigate to "SYS" and select. Navigate until you see "power off" and then select. Push the mode button in to select again when you see the two faces and the words "off time". Here you can select how many seconds the player will wait before going into sleep mode. I chose "0" so that it never automatically shuts down. To turn the player off, hold the Play/Pause (a.k.a. on/off) down for several seconds.

  • Included in your package you will find an adaptor cord which may be utilized if the player is too wide for the location of your USB port(s).

  • Buy new headphones. SERIOUSLY. Unfortunately, the headphones that come with this player make the music sound tinny and the volume hardly goes up. A small investment in headphones makes a huge difference in the playback sound quality. My kids suggest Skullcandy brand although I am sure anything even remotely higher quality than those included with the player will make a huge difference.

MUSIC

Your player already came with a few songs installed. To hear these select "MSC" (music) and the first song will come up. Click Play/Pause (a.k.a. on/off) button to listen. To navigate between songs just use the mode button.

While you are listening you can push the mode button in to find a sub-menu directly related to music. Here you can select repeat to play the song more than once or to have the songs play in random order; go to equalizer and change between "normal", "rock", "pop", "classic", "soft" or "jazz"; change the tempo of the song and more.

ADD STUFF TO YOUR PLAYER

This acts as any other USB device in terms of document storage: insert the player into a USB port. Save your documents to the Removable Drive with the correct letter name (e.g. Removable Drive E).

Downloading music and podcasts is equally simple. If you already have music and/or podcasts on your computer you can just right click the item and then send to the appropriate removable drive OR you can simply drag the item and drop it into the removable drive folder. Don't have music on your computer? Upload one of your CD's to your computer or you can find tons of free mp3's to download just by doing a Google search. If you want a good selection and don't mind spending a little money you might try Napster (this site has a 7 day free trial).

To delete items from your player, open the drive from "My Computer", right click on the item and select delete.

I haven't fully explored the voice recording, text or telbook features of this player, but if those interest you they are available and there is some assistance in the instruction manual. If you figure these features out and want to update this page, please contact Marical.

We hope you found your experience with AurThings worthwhile and that you find the prize enjoyable. Thank you for participating!
